Our Commitment to Accessibility

Newark Smiles Dental wants every visitor to our website to be able to find information, book an appointment, and reach our team without difficulty, regardless of ability or the device they are using. We view digital accessibility as part of the same care we bring to our office and our chairside manner, and we work to keep improving it over time.

This statement explains the standard we aim for, the steps we are taking, where we still have work to do, and how to reach us if something on this site is not working for you.

The Standard We Aim For

We aim to meet the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.1, Level AA. These guidelines are widely recognized and cover areas such as text readability, keyboard access, color contrast, and compatibility with assistive technology like screen readers.

Accessibility is an ongoing process rather than a one-time task. We do not claim that every page of this website fully conforms to WCAG 2.1 AA at this time. As we add new pages or update existing ones, we work to correct issues as we find them.

Our Accessibility Efforts

We are working toward accessibility through the following design goals:

Page structure: Pages are built with headings and landmark elements intended to help screen readers announce the page in a logical order.
Keyboard access: We aim for menus, links, and forms to be usable with a keyboard alone.
Readable text: We aim to use text and background color combinations that stay readable for people with low vision or color blindness.
Alternative text: We are working to provide alternative text for meaningful images so their content is available to screen reader users.
Clear, consistent layout: Navigation, buttons, and links are labeled in plain language and appear in the same place across pages.
Resizable text: Content is designed to reflow and remain usable when text size is increased in the browser.

Known Limitations

We want to be honest rather than make claims we cannot fully back up. Some parts of our website, particularly older pages, embedded scheduling widgets, or third-party tools we do not control directly, may not yet meet every part of the WCAG 2.1 AA standard.

Examples of areas we continue to monitor and refine include PDF documents that were not originally created for screen readers, and some interactive elements supplied by outside booking or payment providers. When we find a gap, we work with our developers to fix it or find a reasonable alternative.
